They are intensely personal as he speaks in the first person, " I have heard of your fame; I stand in awe of your deeds, O Lord " (v.2) but they were words soon to be sung by others.Habakkuk 3:17, 18. Jubilation In Desolation. I will joy in the God of my salvation. This is an arresting text. There is rhythm in its movement and a vividness in its description which compel our attention, yet that which is most impressive is the contrast between the conditions described and the experience claimed.Habakkuk would joy in the God of his salvation. "Salvation" in this context does not mean "eternal life." This is not salvation from sin. The term rather means "deliverance." God was Habakkuk's deliverer—Judah would return after 70 years of Exile. God has a history of saving his people.Habakkuk prophesied during the final days of the Assyrian Empire and the beginning of Babylonia's world rulership under Nabopolassar and his son Nebuchadnezzar.
